Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should my child bring for a snack?
A: Nutritious and simple snacks are best. High sugar foods and highly processed foods are not recommended.
Here is a list of Healthy Snack Ideas

Q: How much is tuition?
A: Tuition is paid monthly on the first of the month and varies based on the program your child attends. There is a morning, afternoon, or full day program, with early/late drop off options. For a full tuition schedule, see our Parent Handbook.

Q: How do I register my child?
A: To register, complete the registration form, and mail it to the school or drop it off at the school with the $50.00 registration fee. This will place the child on a waiting list, if there is one. A child can be registered any time before enrollment.

Q: How old does a child have to be to attend?
A: To attend, the child must be three years old by September 15th of the first school year in which he/she will attend. The child should be fully toilet trained.

Q: What forms are required before school starts?
A: Parents must have all enrollment forms completed before the child will be allowed to begin school. Parents will be asked to complete the following:
  • Enrollment Form
  • Directory Information
  • Release Form: Picture, Travel, and Directory
  • Physical Assessment and Health
  • Record of Immunizations
Q: How are class sizes, waiting lists, and openings determined?
A: Full and part-time openings are determined by a student/teacher ratio of 8:1 and the number of students permitted by the school's operating license.

Enrollment is determined by the following priorities:
  • Students currently enrolled have first priority for successive enrollment.
  • Siblings of students currently enrolled have second priority for enrollment.
  • Children registered for enrollment have third priority and will be admitted on a first-come basis according to the date of completed registration.
When full or part-time openings occur during the school year, enrollment for those positions is determined by the following priorities:
  • Students currently enrolled in the school who wish to change their attendance hours have first priority.
  • Children registered for enrollment but were denied admittance and placed on a waiting list have second priority for enrollment.
Q: What should and shouldn't my child bring to school?
A: Every child needs to have a designated school bag. This is a convenient container for notes from home, show-and-tell items, change of clothes, etc. We encourage independence so we request that you choose bags with no zippers and of a smaller size to accommodate this independence.

A child should not bring money, toys, food, or other items unnecessary for school activities, snack day, or show and tell to school without checking with the teacher.

Q: On which holidays/other days will there be no school?
A: The school generally follows the same schedule as that for the Iowa City Public Schools for scheduled school closures. To see the Iowa City School District School Year Calendar, click hereSome dates may vary so be sure to check our school calendar here.

Q: How do i know if the school is closed/delayed due to weather?
A: School closings and delays will coincide with those of the Iowa City Public Schools. If a child has already arrived at school on these days, parents are expected to pick him/her up as soon as possible. However, in case of the ICCSD closing schools due to high temperatures, the school will remain open because the facility is air-conditioned. To determine if the Iowa City Public Schools are closed or delayed, listen to the radio stations or call them for direct inquiries. You can also find school closing on local news websites, such as KWWL, KGAN, or KCRG.
